Evil Beaver!

Last night I was at Garage, Oslo on a concert after getting tipped by a friend. Band in question was Evil Beaver, a 2-person gig featuring bass, drums and vocals and that's it.

The lineup concists of Evil Beaver herself doing the vocals and bass, and the drummer, Gene Trautman (aka Jonny Beaver), mostly known for being Queens of the stone age's replacement drummer back in the year 2000.

Seeing as how the concert I was at last year with Afrirampo, which also happens to be a 2-person gig, simply was awesome, I figured this concert could be pretty good too. These kinds of bands usually has tons of energy, seeing as this is more or less the only way things can possibly "work".

Talking to a few others in the bar, the band had evidently played at Concrete and people had just left the place. In my eyes, this sounds promising!

However, Garage's marketing department must have made the shittiest effort ever. For the entire concert there were five paying customers. Three of my friends, and two others. I didn't even get a chance to buy a ticket, as they in the end they just opened the concert and made it free-for-all, not even bothering taking an entrance fee.

When the concert started, there was some awesome, loud feedback noise from the bass. There were dozens of effect-pedals and, boy were they being used. The bass was, as expected, being used a mix of actual bass and an electric guitar, giving the music the interesting sound that usually produces.

Some of the songs were dead on good, noisy rock'n'roll, while a few others were of the more dynamic kind, going from tender, cautious parts to explosive choruses.

Seeing as we were one of the very few there actually coming to see the band, getting a front row view of the concert was pretty easy. So was getting in touch with the band. They were actually sitting outside drinking beer with the rest of the people at the bar prior to the concert.

Before the show started, they actually came up to us (not the other way around) and wanted to get introduced. Nice people. I guess it goes without saying, we got backstage and got free booze and stuff.

All in all, it was a nice evening out on town. Even got myself a new-tshirt and a signed CD.

Also, it was the first concert I've been to since Roskilde, so I guess it was about time.
